Unforgotten: Martin Hilleprandt 1938-2020

Argumentative entrepreneur, history-loving bratwurst visionary and for us above all: loving dad and caring boss. Martin Hilleprandt will always be remembered at the restaurant “Zum gulden Stern”.

“When my father wanted something, he followed through.” Sofia Hilleprandt remembers her father, Martin Hilleprandt, as an articulate and personable businessman. When he bought the bratwurst kitchen “Zum gulden Stern” in 1980, he laid the foundation for today’s success. From the very beginning, he focused on tradition, regionality and freshness. Values that he passes on to his children. “I especially remember the evenings in the kitchen when we drank wine. My father would then give me feedback on what I was doing well and what I could do better. We often talked business,” Sofia says.

At the time, Martin Hilleprandt wanted to turn the traditional bratwurst kitchen into one of Nurembergs landmarks. With success.
He built the bratwurst bus, a red vintage car, himself – his favorite piece and still part of “Zum gulden Stern” today. Maintaining this charm is especially important to Sofia, who will continue to run the bratwurst kitchen with heart after Martin’s death in 2020. To give her dad back some of the love she experienced from him throughout her life: “He was the greatest dad in the world. With him, everything was possible. He always did a lot with us, got very involved in our upbringing. Respectful behavior towards everyone was very important to him.” His children were the most important thing to him. He passes on his distinctive sense of humor to them; when they are heartbroken, he comforts them with cocoa. “But I always say that the bratwurst kitchen was his first child. So she is my sister,” Sofia smiles. And without a doubt, Martin Hilleprandt lives on in every corner of the inn. Especially at his favorite place, downstairs in the Stube in the historic guest room, at the table opposite the counter. With four Röstla®, a pretzel with butter, and a Hefeweizen. Just the way he is known.
