Second Summer Street Festival

Welcome to our second Summer Street Festival, a spectacular anniversary celebration of several special occasions this year! Themed “600 Years of Historic Bratwurst Kitchen”, “40 Years of Hotel am Jakobsmarkt” and “20 Years of Minneci”, we cordially invite you all to celebrate with us on August 26, 2023 from 12pm to 10pm.

The festival promises a day full of fun and entertainment, as there will be a wide range of attractions and activities for young and old. For lovers of traditional delicacies, the Historic Bratwurst Kitchen will open its doors and take you on a culinary journey. As support even our Thuringian Bratwurst friends will come, who want to inspire you with their traditions. A long lasting friendship connects us.

The guests of the “Hotel am Jakobsmarkt” can look forward to a special festival, as it has been an important part of the city for four decades. Let’s toast the past together and welcome the future.

The “Minneci” is also celebrating its 20th birthday and is proud to have served your needs in excellent Italian cuisine for two decades. We invite you to celebrate with us and toast to many more successful years to come.

Of course, we will also delight you with a variety of attractions. Plan your day with exciting vintage bus tours through the city and let the children’s face painting transform you into a colorful world. For music lovers, we have prepared a varied program with live music and a hip DJ.

Those who long for a refreshing cool down can stop by our wine or cocktail bar and enjoy delicious drinks.

And as a special highlight, we have prepared a big raffle for you, where you will have a chance to win fantastic prizes.

In addition, the Old Town Friends will offer fabulous tours of our beautiful neighborhood. There will also be many legends and tales about the Nuremberg Bratwurst, told by none other than Björn Becker, who runs the podcast Bratwurst and the City with Sofia Hilleprandt.

We look forward to an unforgettable celebration with you and your family. Come in large numbers to enjoy the summer with us and celebrate these special anniversaries in style.

See you soon at the second Summer Street Festival!

Questions and answers

Why we celebrate?
In Nuremberg’s Zirkelschmiedsgasse and Schottengasse, historic buildings and traditional dining culture now meet modern gastronomy and cultural diversity. Yet a large part of the old town buildings were to be demolished in the early 1980s. If it hadn’t been for Martin Hilleprandt, who saved this little corner from demolition. Together with the Nuremberg Old Town Friends, the local business owners and restaurateurs are celebrating for the second time with a street festival on August 26 that this was prevented and that the neighborhood has been transformed into an attractive place to stay for citizens and tourists.

“It has become a corner for connoisseurs,” says Sofia Hilleprandt, who initiated the summer street festival. The 21-year-old is the owner of the real estate in the neighborhood and the manager of the restaurant “Zum Gulden Stern,” which is considered the oldest bratwurst kitchen in the world when it opened in 1419. “Last year, I wanted to hold a party in honor of my father, Martin, who bought the dilapidated neighborhood in 1980. It was considered an eyesore at the time. With the help of the Altstadtfreunde association, he saved it from demolition. He put a lot of heart and soul into renovating the gulden Stern in particular, making it a landmark for Nuremberg as the oldest bratwurst restaurant – and a home for our family,” explains Sofia Hilleprandt, who took over the inn two years ago after her father’s death.

Life also returned to the surrounding buildings in the 1980s, and this year the district is celebrating no fewer than four anniversaries, some of which were postponed due to the pandemic: The Bratwurstküche itself looks back on its more than 600-year history; the Altstadtfreunde, which runs its Kulturscheune next door, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year; the Hotel am Jakobsmarkt, now also in its 2nd generation, its 40th anniversary; and the Italian restaurant Minneci its 20th anniversary under new management.

“We are a community here and use the street festival to celebrate together with our guests. Last year the festival was already a great success and we are really looking forward to it again.  A visit will be worthwhile again this time, especially in terms of culinary delights,” promises Sofia Hilleprandt. The Initiatorin is particularly pleased also about the fact that Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder assured its participation. He was known with her father Martin Hilleprandt.
